The Impossible Bridge

The Impossible Bridge
Yesterday the Blue Jellyfish group read a book by Jane Buxton called The Impossible Bridge. At the back of the book were some instructions on how to make a simple bridge using a sheet of paper.

Today Rebecca showed us the one she made one at  home and then demonstrated again for us.

This was a child led and practical way to talk about measuring, folding, balancing and predicting. The children worked together to make their bridges. Some  wrote reports as part of Story Writing that followed. What a great morning!

Isaac wrote - Room 6 made bridges. It was awesome. Nathan even put a workshop with his road.

Oscar wrote - Loughan, Isaac and me made a bridge but it kept on falling over. But then we found stronger bits of paper. We used it and it made the bridge stronger and now it is better and now we made a very good bridge.

Nathan writes - the garage is for stopping over for fuel. There are lots of roads..

The cars go so fast. Loughan had a broken piece of paper and made it into a train tack. Jamie has a bucket that is made for a house and his car can jump on the road. We have an awesome bridge that never breaks. Lilly's away but she and her friends made an awesome bridge too.

Ofa wrote - Roads always have to have some signs. Loughan's train track didn't work so he made a bridge. This is the garage for the person to get in and out and when he gets out he has to lock the door!

But wait there is more to this story.......

Nathan writes again...I built a bridge with my Dad. It is strong. It could hold three trucks of mine -  really heavy trucks. One of my strongest was a tractor-trailer. I put two boxes together. Today I brought it to school and it is long and strong. It is good looking!
